Rusal says Russia should be exempt from U.S. aluminum tariffs

MOSCOW, March 23 (Reuters) - Russian aluminum producer Rusal said on Friday it believed Russia should be exempted from tariffs on aluminum imports to the United States.

The United States is set to begin charging import duties of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum from Friday.

Rusal said it has been supplying the United States with the low carbon aluminum that American consumers increasingly demand.

"We believe that Russia should be exempt from tariffs in order to protect U.S. consumers from price increases and to ensure that American manufacturing companies can remain competitive," Rusal said.
