Mark Zuckerberg said he will keep his role as chairman of Facebook's board.
He made his comments in a CNN interview that aired Tuesday night.
The New York Times reported last week how Facebook made attempts to deflect the controversies plaguing the company, ranging from the Cambridge Analytica scandal to how Russia attempted to use Facebook to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Since the report, many have questioned Zuckerberg's leadership.
During the CNN interview, Zuckerberg was asked whether he would step down as chairman of Facebook's board. Zuckerberg has voting control over the board, meaning he could not be ousted.
"I'm not currently thinking that that makes sense," Zuckerberg told CNN.
Zuckerberg also praised Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg when asked if she would keep her job. He praised her work at the company over the last several years, adding that he hopes the two would be able to work together for several more years.
A Wall Street Journal report last weekend said Zuckerberg blamed Sandberg and her teams for many of the problems plaguing Facebook. Zuckerberg's blame "rattled" Sandberg, according to the report.
"Sheryl is a really important part of this company and is leading a lot of the efforts to address ... the biggest issues that we have," Zuckerberg said. "And she's been an important partner for me for 10 years. And I'm really proud of the work we've done together, and I hope that we work together for decades more to come."
