Italy economy minister rules out breaking 3 pct deficit limit

ROME, May 9 (Reuters) - The Italian government has no intention of pushing the budget deficit above the European Union's limit of 3 percent of gross domestic product, Economy Minister Giovanni Tria has told financial daily Il Sole 24 Ore.

The head of the ruling League party, Matteo Salvini, has said Rome could break the limit to fund tax cuts. His coalition partner, 5-Star Movement chief Luigi Di Maio, has also raised the issue of exceeding the limit. .

"Even last year the same things were said in the summer but the 3 percent was never really in question," Tria told Il Sole 24 Ore in an interview published on Thursday.
