MEXICO CITY, May 17 (Reuters) - Mexico and Canada will lift retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products once the United States announces that a deal has been reached to remove steel and aluminum duties from the two countries, a senior Mexican official said on Friday.

On Friday afternoon, the White House is expected to announce the agreement that would call for a monitoring system that aims to ensure that metals from other countries are not allowed into the United States. (Reporting by Anthony Esposito, Writing by Daina Beth Solomon, Editing by Frank Jack Daniel)
