Japan Motegi says U.S. tariff escalation with China, Mexico not desirable

TOKYO, May 31 (Reuters) - Japanese Economy Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said on Friday that an escalation of U.S. tariffs on China or Mexico is an undesirable development for the global economy.

Motegi, speaking at a seminar, said it would be beneficial for all parties to reach a rules-based resolution through negotiations.

Motegi was responding to questions about U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to rapidly increase tariffs on Mexican imports unless illegal immigration ends.
