Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell was scheduled to speak to the press following the conclusion Wednesday of the central bank's two-day policy meeting.

The central bank deliberated changes to its benchmark interest rate and updated its economic forecasts. At his news conference in July, Powell surprised markets by calling the rate cut then a "mid-cycle adjustment."
