METALS-London copper dips as investors await progress on trade talks

SINGAPORE, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Copper prices in London dipped on Wednesday, after hitting a seven-week high in the previous session, as investors awaited more clues on the U.S.-China trade deal.

The United States and China last week said they had made progress in defusing a damaging trade dispute between the world's two largest economies, and U.S. officials said a deal could be signed this month.

The trade deal hopes and supply disruptions in top copper producer Chile gave copper prices support. However, the lack of news on trade talks progress on Wednesday limited further gains in prices.

Three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange (LME) eased 0.1% to $5,933.50 a tonne by 0240 GMT. The contract hit its highest since Sept. 13 in the previous session on hopes of a U.S.-China trade deal.

The most-traded copper contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (ShFE) rose 0.4% to 47,340 yuan ($6,764.02) a tonne, tracking overnight gains in London.
