NEW YORK, Nov 22 (Reuters) - U.S. drivers covered 1.7% more miles in September than a year earlier, traveling a total of 267.7 billion miles, the U.S. Department of Transportation said in a monthly report on Friday.

In 2019, total travel is up 1% from a year earlier at 2,436.9 billion vehicle miles, the DOT said. The data can be used as an indicator of demand for gasoline and diesel. (Reporting By Jessica Resnick-Ault Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)
