Dec 20 (Reuters) - HERE Technologies said on Friday Japan's Mitsubishi Corp and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT) would jointly buy a 30% stake in the digital mapping services provider.
Mitsubishi and NTT will co-invest in the Amsterdam-headquartered company through their newly established, jointly owned holding firm COCO Tech Holding B.V. in the Netherlands, HERE said.
Financial details of the transaction, which they said would close next year, were not disclosed.
The Japanese companies said they would collaborate with HERE to develop services such as ways to tackle road congestion and improve supply chain efficiencies.
HERE has also attracted investments from other major automakers that do not want to rely on third-party mapping companies such as Alphabet's Google as they intensify development of self-driving cars and mobility services.
In 2015, BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen's Audi bought a controlling stake in the company from Finnish telecoms group Nokia.
Last year, Germany's Continental and Bosch , the world's largest automotive suppliers, have each bought a 5% stake in the company.
In February, HERE, which employs around 8,000 staff in 54 countries, partnered with Navinfo Co Ltd to offer location services in China. (Reporting by Anurag Maan in Bengaluru; Editing by Subhranshu Sahu)
