Investors may be looking for the safety of dividends after a volatile stretch for stocks, but the economic downturn has put the cash flow for many companies at risk. 

One way for investors to approach this is to invest in a fund of dividend stocks to minimize the risk from any one company cutting dividends. CNBC used FactSet to find the exchange traded funds focused on dividends that had performed the best over the past five years.
