Investors should shift some of their investments to dividend stocks to give a "ballast" to their portfolio, according to Jefferies.

Small and midcap strategist Steven DeSanctis tweaked some of his industry-level recommendations in a note Wednesday and said it might be time to look for income-generating stocks after the massive rally during the spring and summer of this year.
