Stocks closed well off their highs and the Nasdaq turned negative during a late-day slide on Wednesday. The S&P 500 did snap a three-day losing streak, and the small cap Russell 2000 closed at a record high. Tensions were high in Washington as President Trump vetoed a defense spending bill and called for changes to the $900 billion Covid relief bill.
