What about hydrogen-powered mobility as an acceptable alternative?

Promoting sustainable mobility and supporting the changes in the way we consume energy: these are the targets that Total Germany and its partners, Linde, McPhy Energy, Enertrag and 2G, have set themselves through the creation of new-generation service stations.

In the spring of 2014, Total's multi-energy service station at Berlin-Schoenefeld unveiled its new green hydrogen (H2BER) supply equipment. The decarbonated hydrogen is produced by a 45-bar electrolyzer. A photovoltaic system, developed by Total's SunPower subsidiary, has been installed on the roof of the service station and produces a part of this hydrogen using solar electricity, while the rest is generated by a nearby wind farm.

The hydrogen is used as an energy source for a number of uses: electricity, heating, gas and transport. The hydrogen can be used not only to charge electric fuel cell cars, but also in a co-generation power plant, or supplied into the public gas network.

Total's ambition is to develop a network of 50 connected hydrogen-based service stations that cover the most densely populated regions of Germany. In this way, hydrogen-based mobility will become accessible to all. Total's multi-energy service station also proposes quality traditional fuels derived from oil products, which will continue to be cornerstone of the transport sector in the future. Now, users need to be convinced of the decisive role they play in the development of more sustainable mobility.
