Apple moving on from nude celebrities to new products
Just days after hackers used Apple's data storage service iCloud to access compromising images from the cellphones of more than 100 celebrities, the company is hoping to generate a different sort of headline with a product launch.
"Nothing's perfect," said Re/Code senior editor Arik Hesseldahl. "It never is with computer security." He added that, generally speaking, cloud security has been reliable overall.
Apple is poised to introduce the iPhone 6, a smartwatch, and the iOS 8 operating system this week.

Hesseldahl said he expects two new software capabilities to continue the debate on data security. Apple is expected to introduce HomeKit and HealthKit, two frameworks in iOS 8 that offer more functionality by linking devices with a user's personal information.
"HomeKit will let you do things like unlock your door, turn on and off the heat," he said of Apple's framework for connecting smart phones to accessories within a user's home. "HealthKit will be for monitoring your pulse, your sleep habits" and aggregating health data. HealthKit will allow health and fitness applications on smartphones to share data about the user's health from a centralized source.

"We're going to talk a lot about privacy and security with these things because they're going to be necessarily linked to the cloud," said Hesseldahl. "We're going to have some intelligent conversations about that and see some exciting new features."
