Bostonian's plea: Netflix, please help us!

After enduring three major snowstorms in a matter of weeks, winter-weary Bostonian Kate Gonso had been stuck in the house and was desperate for some entertainment. However, her choice was Netflix's "House of Cards," and the new season wasn't out just yet.

So, the lecturer at Northeastern University decided to pen an open letter to the streaming media company begging it to release season three of the hit show early.

"I was at home, it was the third blizzard. I went to see when it was coming out … [and] felt that I needed to do something," she said in an interview with "Power Lunch."

In her letter, published in The Boston Globe, Gonso wrote: "We, the people of Boston, urge you to release the third season of 'House of Cards' one week early. We need this. … For two days, we've only eaten Campbell's tomato soup. We're in our pajamas. We've been in them for days."

Gonso told CNBC she was surprised by the reaction, which included at least one call for her to run for mayor.

"At first I wanted to write kind of just a funny letter to boost the spirits of the people of Boston but now I'm kind of getting serious about this," she said.

When asked if the plea was only for Netflix to release it for the people of Boston, she said: "Let's do it for everybody. We're all in this together."

Gonso has not heard back from Netflix.

"Washington shuts down when it snows too! The good news is that there's plenty of other great movies, TV shows and Netflix originals to keep Bostonians cozy as they wait for next week's release of 'House of Cards' season three," a Netflix spokesman said in response to a request for comment from CNBC.

The third season of "House of Cards" is set to debut Feb. 27.
