With the arrival of Apple Music comes the official start of music streaming. Spotify, Rhapsody and most recently Tidal, have made inroads. But Apple, with 500 million iPhones sold and more than 800 million registered iTunes users, has the power to finally make streaming music the mainstream.

The system is straightforward, like most Apple products. It costs $9.99 per month for a single user or $14.99 per month for a family plan and has five main features. "My Music," a subscriber's music library, combines previous purchases with newly streamed tunes; "For You" recommends songs based on users' previous selections; "Connect" is where artists can share exclusive content; "New" recommends music that was recently released; and Beats 1, a streaming radio station, with top DJs curating the playlists.
