NZ PM Key ups the ante on All Blacks gamble
New Zealand Prime Minister John Key has a message for CNBC anchor Oriel Morrison: You'd better look good in black.
On Monday, Key donned a Wallabies jersey after betting Singapore-based Aussie Morrison that New Zealand would beat Australia in the Bledisloe Cup match in Sydney last weekend.
The All Blacks went down 19-27 and Key obliged with a photograph of himself in green and gold.
Now the New Zealand PM has doubled down and agreed to wear not only a Wallabies jersey but also a cap and scarf if Australia beats the New Zealand in this Saturday's game in Auckland's Eden Park.
Morrison, meanwhile, has committed to wearing an All Blacks kit if New Zealand is victorious – a brave move given that the All Blacks haven't lost to the Wallabies at Eden Park since 1986.
Talking on TVNZ on Wednesday, Key joked that he had called on All Blacks captain Richie McCaw for help.
"If I lose this weekend I've got to wear not only a Wallabies jersey but a cap, a scarf," Key told TVNZ. "So I did text Ritchie yesterday and say 'hey, no pressure mate, but I look better in black than I do in green and gold if you know what I mean'."
Key had a separate message for Morrison: "We're on, a bet's a bet - tell her I hope she looks good in black."
As for Morrison, she's keeping her cool and is confident of a Wallabies win in Auckland. "Please tell John that he looks great in green and gold, and thanks for being such a great sport about it all."
