Rescued migrant gets 'fat' lottery check in Spain
Just eight years after being stranded on a boat, a migrant is now reportedly a rich man, thanks to a winning Christmas lottery ticket.
The Senegalese immigrant won almost $440,000 in a Tuesday lottery drawing in Spain, according to Agence France-Presse, citing local media.
The 35-year-old migrant farm worker, Ngame, was rescued with his wife by the Spanish coast guard after a treacherous journey from Morocco on a packed wooden boat, AFP reports.
He was out of work when he got hold of one of 1,600 winning tickets as part of Spain's annual Christmas tradition, the world's biggest lottery called "El Gordo," or "The Fat One."
"I just can't believe this, I can tell you that on some days we do not have 5 euros between the two of us," Ngame told local media.
