Most expensive rental properties by state
Rents are soaring across America — and the monthly rates at the most expensive properties make buying a home look downright cheap.
RentCafe, the apartment-finding website, compiled a list of the most expensive rentals in each state. Of course, the numbers are not perfect. Some of the most expensive properties are not listed publicly and are only available as "whisper listings" by high-end brokers. Yet these rentals and their rates are nonetheless among the most expensive in the country.
The most expensive rental in the country, according to RentCafe, is in Miami. The 13,000-square-foot eight-bedroom, 8½ bathroom modern glass mansion in Miami Beach is available for $300,000 a month. It's got a heated pool, 186 feet of waterfront and views of downtown.
The most expensive rental in California also has water views. The 6,067-square-foot home in Malibu has five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, an elevator for easy access to all three floors, a tea house with kitchen and gym, and sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean.
Here are the most expensive rental listings in the states with the priciest listings.
1. $300,000 — Florida
An eight-bedroom modern house in Miami Beach, overlooking downtown Miami.
2. $200,000 — California
A five-bedroom home with a tea house and Pacific Ocean views, in Malibu.
3. $150,000 — New York
At the famed One57 tower in Manhattan, apartment 65A is 4,483 square feet overlooking Central Park.
4. $100,000 — Connecticut
A 50,000-square-foot mansion in Farmington with a night club and green-screen room.
5. $80,000 — South Carolina
A 6,800-square-foot home and farm in Bridgehampton with ocean views.
6. $75,000 — Colorado
A stone mansion in Aspen with more than 8,300 square feet, a hot tub, media room, yoga room and wet bar.
7. $65,000 — Ohio
A 9,135-square-foot-mansion in Solon featuring a weight room, wine cellar, media room and country club privileges.
8. $45,000 — Illinois
A 14,670-square-foot Mediterranean-style mansion in Winnetka that has a hot-tub spa, sports court, elevator and barbecue area.
8. $45,000 — New Jersey
A 3,460-square-foot home in Margate City that has ocean views, a billiard room and four bedrooms.
10. $40,000 — Arizona
A 13,000-square-foot home in Paradise Valley with mountain views, a sunken tennis court with lights, a massage room, gym and two libraries.
10. $40,000 — Massachusetts
A penthouse triplex on Boston's Commonwealth Avenue with four bedrooms, two private decks, a chef's kitchen and four parking spaces.
10. $40,000 — Rhode Island
A charming colonial called "Holly House," in Newport, that was built in 1900 and is steps away from the Tennis Hall of Fame.
