Snapchat launches new way to archive posts called Memories
Snapchat is launching a camera roll-like option to save and search through past snaps, the company announced Wednesday.
The feature, called Memories, will allow users of the social media and messaging app to save past posts (Snaps) and edit them together into a longer narrative or repost them as flashbacks. Other options include "My Eyes Only," a passcode-enabled way to archive Snaps.
Memories will roll out gradually, and will be available by swiping up from the Camera screen, the company said.
The feature, which indexes Snaps locally on a device, marks a departure from the app's hallmark ephemeral nature, which let posted images and chats disappear after they were viewed. It comes as other social media platforms, like Facebook, have rolled out features that resurface older posts to commemorate anniversaries.
Snapchat, wildly popular among teens, has seen its audience start to age, with 14 percent of U.S. smartphone users 35 and older now on the app, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing comScore.
