Chicago Cubs take early World Series lead in ticket prices
Everyone loves an underdog — and surging prices of World Series tickets are the latest proof of that adage.
The Chicago Cubs' trip to baseball's premier game, which broke a 71-year curse when the team defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers late Saturday, has sent ticket prices on a tear, according to TicketIQ.
The site's data show the fall classic is shaping up to be the priciest in at least six years, with the average price of Cubs tickets tracking well above $6,600. The average asking price for Cleveland Indians tickets are around $3,500, TicketIQ said.
The American League Champion Indians, also an underdog team battling a long history of post-season disappointments, have home field advantage throughout the seven game series. The Indians last won a World Series in 1948, but earned a playoff trip to the big game in 1997.
TicketIQ shows that the minimum cost of entrance to Game One is about $1,200; when the series shifts to Chicago for Game Three, the minimum ask price shoots up to about $2,600.
Despite the fact that most of the games will be played in Cleveland, the Cubs are favored to win the series, according to Vegas bookmakers.
