'Shark Tank' investor Barbara Corcoran: Forget the resume — top job candidates display these 3 traits
For Barbara Corcoran, judge on ABC's "Shark Tank," a fine resume is just that: Fine.
Don't rely on it alone to get you very far, she says.
When Corcoran, who runs a $6 billion real estate company, is hiring, she looks for traits not easily conveyed on paper, like honesty, enthusiasm and, most of all, persistence.
"I don't care about a resume," she says on Twitter. "The right attitude always wins."
Corcoran herself never felt assured of career success. She was not a great student growing up, and for years she says she was insecure about not appearing smart.
She worked several low-paid jobs, including one as a diner waitress. Then a $1,000 loan changed her life.
Corcoran used that loan to expand a tiny real estate business into a multi-billion-dollar one.
Now the mogul looks to invest in other hard workers.
Corcoran isn't the only Shark to foreground the importance of determination and resilience. Her fellow investor, entrepreneur and founder of FUBU Daymond John, says, "Life is a series of pitches. You are always pitching."
