Expedia's Dara Khosrowshahi tells reporters he'll be Uber's CEO

Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi will join Uber as CEO, the company told employees on Tuesday, but Uber is holding off on a more formal "official" announcement, a source told CNBC.
Khosrowshahi was offered the job by the board, Expedia said yesterday in regulatory filings, and it seemed as if he intended to accept. Khosrowshahi also indicated to several news outlets that he plans to accept the role and look for a successor at Expedia.
Expedia says he has still not formally accepted the role, and Uber has not announced his appointment externally.
Khosrowshahi had been expected to meet with employees this week, according to The Wall Street Journal, starting a new chapter for a company that is emerging from chaos. The company has been without a CEO and several other C-suite executives, and is reeling from a very public workplace culture investigation.
"I'm in it to get my hands dirty and build a team and do something that people will look back on with tons of satisfaction," Khosrowshahi told Bloomberg.
Khosrowshahi is widely seen as a stabilizing force for the company. Khosrowshahi told the Journal there's a mutual respect between him and former CEO Travis Kalanick, who's still on the board.
"Dara is the type of person that's going to come in and institute a culture that's going to take away some of those distractions and probably put them on a more professional business path," Paul Holland, an Uber investor and general partner at Foundation Capital, told CNBC's "Squawk Alley" on Monday.
