Traditional brick-and-mortar retailers are showing signs of life at a time when a lot of people had written them off.

Costco Wholesale, Ross Stores and Dollar Tree, among others, hit all-time highs on Monday. The SPDR S&P Retail exchange-traded fund (XRT) also rose sharply, trading about 3 percent higher.
