If history is a guide, applications for gun permits will spike in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut massacre. Reports showed applications for firearms rising after other mass shootings in Aurora, Colorado and Phoenix, Arizona as people seek guns as a means of protecting themselves, their homes and families.
