Selig Won't Toss Bad Call That Cost Pitcher Perfect Game
Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig won't reverse an umpire's admitted blown call that cost Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga a perfect game, according to a report Thursday.
Selig says Major League Baseball will look at expanded replay and umpiring, but not the botched call Wednesday night.
Umpire Jim Joyce now says he made a mistake on what would've been the final out in Detroit, where the Tigers beat Cleveland 3-0. The umpire has personally apologized to Galarraga.
A day after his blown call, Joyce took to the field at Comerica Park, at one point wiping tears from his face.
Both cheers and boos could be heard when he was introduced.
He met Galarraga at home plate as the pitcher presented the umpire with the Tiger's lineup card. Joyce shook hands with Galarraga and patted him on the shoulder.
