Could Apple Court Victory Hurt Long-Term?

A win for Apple in its lawsuit alleging that Samsung copied its technology could mean trouble down the road, UBS Managing Director Steven Milunovich told CNBC on Wednesday.

“The point we’re trying to make is that in the long-term, it’s not copycats that really cause Apple a problem.

I don’t think you beat Apple at their own game,” he said on “Fast Money.”

Apple’s legal team delivered closing arguments at a federal court in San Jose, Calif., on Wednesday.

“The risk is that somebody does to Apple what Apple’s done to others, which is come up with a new product category, come up with some sort of leapfrog technology,” Milunovich said.

“And you could have unintended consequences, whereby forcing others to think out of the box, in fact, could cause Apple problems longer term.”
