Munster: Apple-Google ‘Drama Far From Over’
Apple’s $1 billion jury verdict against Samsung for violating its iPhone patents won’t likely hurt the manufacturer — or Andoid operating system parent Google — as much as some might think, Piper Jaffrey analyst Gene Munster told CNBC.
On “Fast Money,” Munster pointed to Google’s recent acquisition of Motorola Mobility — and all of its patents.
“If you’re Google, you’re looking out for your hardware partners, and you’re stepping back this morning and saying which of their 12,000 patents that they have now are they probably going to counterpunch with Apple, and so this drama’s far from over,” he said.
Munster also pointed out that Samsung makes roughly 40 percent of the iPhone’s components, leaving a question as to what will happen to that relationship.
