CHARLOTTE, Mich., Oct. 29, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spartan Chassis, Inc., a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq:SPAR) concluded its 18th Annual Fire Truck Training Conference (FTTC) in Lansing, Michigan and achieved a number of milestones validating Spartan's leadership role in the emergency response industry.
- Spartan Chassis established a new standard by providing the most comprehensive airbag system training, following the launch of its industry-leading Advanced Protection System (APS) in August 2012
- Over 165 Fire Truck Technicians attended the event for comprehensive service training on Spartan Chassis products
- Spartan Chassis Associate, Greg T. Rinehart, has achieved EVT Proctor status and can provide customer training as needed at the Spartan Chassis HQ in Charlotte, MI.
- Over 195 EVT certification tests were completed during the event
The FTTC conference featured more than 40 seminars with a focus on three professional tracks including: (i) basic operation and maintenance, (ii) service repair, (iii) heavy repair. Each seminar offered fire truck service personnel a comprehensive understanding and hands-on demonstrations of vehicle components and systems.
Courses were led by training specialists from Spartan Chassis in partnership with major suppliers of emergency response equipment and systems. Technicians prepared for Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification exams that were held during the week. Preventative maintenance continued to be the focus of the event, which was attended by technicians from across North America and Canada, as Spartan Chassis anticipates growth in the number of departments that will perform their own vehicle inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs.
"Holding down the cost of repairs, increasing safety and minimizing equipment downtime have always been a focus, but are now major priorities for fire departments already facing intense financial pressures," said Bill Foster, co-founder and Vice President, Spartan Motors. "Technology, emissions, safety standards and customization add complexity to the chassis we manufacture. Communities depend on these vehicles to keep them safe and it is vital that we offer the formal training needed by technicians to maintain and service our products to help keep them operational."
