Users in Shanghai Enjoy Fastest Speeds in China
BEIJING, Oct. 30, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ChinaCache International Holdings Ltd. ("ChinaCache" or the "Company") (Nasdaq:CCIH), the leading total solutions provider of Internet content and application delivery services in China, today released its Third Quarter 2012 China Internet Connection Speed Rankings. These rankings are based on data collected from ChinaCache Index, or CC Index, the first platform in China that allows Internet users to measure their Internet speed on a real-time basis. The Company believes that the analytics provided by CC Index may be critically important to carriers, Internet content providers and end-users in their efforts to gain speed online. A full version of the rankings can be found on the Company's website at http://www.chinacache.com/upload/3Q2012CICSR.pdf.
According to CC Index, in the third quarter of 2012, the average connection speed in China reached approximately 2.31 Mb/s, compared with 2.19 Mb/s in the first half of 2012, and 26 provinces in China had an average connection speed of over 2 Mb/s. Shanghai ranked first on the list with an average connection speed of nearly 3.44 Mb/s, and Shandong Province came in a distant second with an average connection speed of nearly 2.83 Mb/s. The other three provinces ranked among the top five were Fujian (2.78 Mb/s), Heilongjiang (2.66 Mb/s) and Jiangxi (2.63 Mb/s). The five provinces with the slowest speeds were Xinjiang (1.65 Mb/s), Qinghai (1.67 Mb/s), Guangxi (1.90 Mb/s), Tianjin (1.92 Mb/s) and Guizhou (1.97 Mb/s). The report also highlights a clear connection speed gap between China's eastern provinces (2.44 Mb/s) and its western provinces (2.10 Mb/s).
Comparing China's three major carriers, China Mobile had the slowest average connection speed of only 1.52 Mb/s, far behind China Unicom's 2.06 Mb/s and China Telecom's 2.34 Mb/s. Internet users of China Mobile and China Telecom in South China generally enjoyed a faster connection speed than those in the North. Conversely, Internet users of China Unicom in North China typically have better experience than those in the South.
"The improvement in overall average Internet speeds in China has been relatively rapid over the last quarter and we are pleased to be part of the many initiatives that have contributed to enhancing the Internet experience for China's businesses and consumers," commented Dr. Ken Zhang, CTO of ChinaCache. "The potential for further advancements can be seen when China's performance is compared with other countries. South Korea, Japan and Singapore all enjoy much faster Internet speeds. At ChinaCache, we are dedicated to accelerating China's Internet capabilities. For example, ChinaCache has been working with the Shanghai Branch of China Telecom to improve its connection speeds, and we are delighted to see that our efforts have made the branch No. 1 on the list."
