Irvine Facility Will Include Headquarters & Manufacturing Facility for Company’s Corneal Inlay Solution for Presbyopia
AMSTERDAM & IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Presbia, a medical device company and leader in near vision restoration, announced today that PresbiTech, its U.S.-based affiliate, has established a new location in Orange County, California at 8845 Irvine Center Drive. With more than 9,000 square feet of space for both business operations and manufacturing, the new location will complement the company’s existing European-based manufacturing capabilities for its corneal inlay solution for presbyopia, the Presbia Flexivue Microlens--a surgical solution to restore the loss of near vision that affects nearly all adults over the age of 40.
"The expansion of our affiliate business office and the addition of manufacturing capabilities demonstrates the significant progress Presbia is making in the commercialization of the Presbia Flexivue Microlens,” said Zohar Loshitzer, CEO of Presbia. “We are also excited to tap into the bio-medical expertise available in Southern California. This move enables us to enhance our company’s growth.”
The Presbia Flexivue Microlens received the CE Mark in 2009 and is a customizable optical corneal inlay solution for correction of presbyopia. The procedure typically takes approximately ten minutes and utilizes the commonly used femtosecond laser—the same kind used in LASIK surgery—in order to create a small pocket in the cornea of the patient’s non-dominant eye. The Presbia Flexivue Microlens provides a permanent, yet reversible, alternative to reading glasses that treats the gradual loss of near vision that impairs the ability to focus on small objects at close range.
Presbia anticipates that the new location and manufacturing facility will create 15-20 new jobs in Orange County.
Presbia is a leading ophthalmic-device company focused on the development of solutions for presbyopia, the age-related loss of the ability to read or focus on near objects. Chief among these approaches is the Presbia Flexivue Microlens, a 3mm-diameter lens implanted using femtosecond laser technology. Further information is available at www.presbia.com.
