HOUSTON, Nov. 1, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO) today announced that its Board of Directors has elected Sylvia J. Kerrigan as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary, and Lance W. Robertson as vice president, Eagle Ford Production Operations. Previously, Kerrigan served as vice president, general counsel and secretary, and Robertson as regional vice president, South Texas/Eagle Ford. Kerrigan will continue reporting to Clarence P. Cazalot, Jr., chairman, president and CEO, and Robertson will continue reporting to David E. Roberts, Jr., executive vice president and chief operating officer. Both appointments were effective Oct. 31, and these individuals will continue to be based in Houston.

Kerrigan joined Marathon Oil in 1995 and was named vice president and general counsel in September 2009, and secretary in November 2009. Prior to that, she served as assistant general counsel for Litigation, Human Resources and Environmental Law.
In addition to her work at Marathon Oil, Kerrigan worked at the United Nations Security Council's Commission d'Indemnisation in Geneva, Switzerland (UNCC) for two years, and was in private practice for five years. At the UNCC, she served as the senior legal officer and team leader responsible for arbitrating the losses sustained by international energy companies following Iraq's 1990 invasion of Kuwait. In private practice, Kerrigan counseled energy, construction, manufacturing and transportation clients on complex commercial, international and insurance matters. During law school, she clerked for the Texas Supreme Court.
Kerrigan holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy, political economy and English from Southwestern University, and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from the University of Texas. She is a past chairman of the State Bar of Texas International Law Section and a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. She has served on the board of directors for various professional organizations, including the American Leadership Forum, the Center for American and International Law, the Houston Bar Association, and the University of Texas Law Energy Center Advisory Board.
Robertson joined Marathon Oil in October of 2011 and since then has been responsible for all of the Company's operations in the Eagle Ford shale play of South Texas. In this role, his responsibilities include strategic and tactical operational leadership throughout the entire region, working in collaboration with Marathon Oil's exploration, engineering, land and operations teams. He has direct oversight and responsibility for the successful execution of all drilling, completion and production activities while leading the development of best practices and continuous improvement to maximize the value of Marathon Oil's substantial investments in the Eagle Ford play.
Robertson earned a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Southern Methodist University. Prior to joining Marathon Oil, Robertson served as vice president of Operations - Eagle Ford Asset Team for Pioneer Natural Resources.
Between 2004 and 2011, he held a number of senior engineering and operations management roles of increasing responsibility with Pioneer Natural Resources in the U.S. and Canada. Robertson began his career with ExxonMobil as a drilling engineer in Angola and Equatorial Guinea.
