Federal storm aid available for NYC, LI residents

NEW YORK -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency says federal funding is being made available to storm-affected residents and business owners in New York City and on Long Island.

Assistance includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs.

Federal aid is also available to state and eligible local governments and certain non-profit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for debris removal and emergency protective measures.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses can begin applying for aid starting Thursday by registering online at http://www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
