2012 Election Education Session & Round Table with Newt Gingrich, Howard Dean and David Mason

Kaplan University, in cooperation with Newt Gingrich's Newt University and Howard Dean, are pleased to present an educational discussion around today's national elections over the KAPx online instructional platform.

David Mason, Senior Vice President, Compliance Services at Aristotle International, a pioneer in political technology and a graduate of Kaplan University's Concord Law School, will be hosting a live educational session on the 2012 election featuring former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and former Governor of Vermont Howard Dean. David Mason served as Commissioner and Chairman of the Federal Election Commission from 1998 until 2008.

For two hours on Election Day, November 6 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. EST, the panel will cover a wide range of topics on “Understanding Election Day” and what to look for in the presidential returns. The discussion is intended to be educational and will focus on the process itself as well as the positions and approach that each candidate and their party has focused on. On November 7, another session is planned to focus on the election results.

About the Panel

David Mason, Kaplan University Alumni and Session Moderator

David M. Mason is Senior Vice President for Compliance Services at Aristotle International, the pioneer in political technology. He assists campaigns, PACs, and political parties in maximizing their effectiveness while complying with federal and state regulatory requirements.

Mason served as Commissioner and Chairman (2002 and 2008) of the Federal Election Commission from 1998 until 2008, a Presidentially-appointed, Senate-confirmed position. Commissioner Mason previously served as a Vice President and Senior Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, President Reagan appointed Mason as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Legislative Affairs) and served in staff positions in the U.S. Congress for Senator John Warner and Representatives Tom Bliley and Trent Lott.

Newt Gingrich: Former Speaker of the House

Mr. Gingrich is an American politician, author, and political consultant. He represented Georgia's 6th congressional district as a Republican from 1979 until 1999, and served as the 58th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999. Gingrich was a candidate for the 2012 Republican Party presidential nomination.

Gingrich taught history and geography at the University of West Georgia. During this period he ran twice (1974 and 1976) for the United States House of Representatives.

Howard Dean: Former Governor of Vermont: Instructor

Mr. Dean is an American politician and physician from Vermont. He served six terms as the 79th Governor of Vermont and ran unsuccessfully for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination. He was chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2005 to 2009. Although his U.S. Presidential campaign was unsuccessful, Dean is regarded as a pioneer in raising the profile of Internet-based fundraising and grassroots organizing.

Before entering politics, Dean earned his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1978. Dean was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1982 and was elected lieutenant governor in 1986. Dean was elected to five two-year terms, serving from 1991 to 2003, making him the second longest-serving governor in Vermont history. Dean also oversaw the expansion of the "Dr. Dynasaur" program, which ensures universal health care for children and pregnant women in the state. He is a noted staunch supporter of universal health care.
