Phase Two of Game Will Allow Fans to Compete Against Globetrotter Players in Real Time
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- To offer their fans unprecedented access, the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters are now giving the next generation of basketball fans as young as five the chance to try their hand at perfecting the trick shot magic of the iconic basketball team wherever and whenever they want, by introducing The Harlem Globetrotters Trick Shots mobile game, for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch in the Apple App Store and for Android Devices in Google Play.
With 15 cool basketball designs, fans shoot off objects, from spots like airplanes, cliffs, and the moon – even through helicopters and out of cannons – as they try to master 30 epic trick shot levels. They can also create their own trick-shooting avatar and share their high scores with Facebook friends, as they try to dazzle their way through all levels collecting championship trophies and earning achievements based on skill. Phase two of the game will include the opportunity for fans to play against Globetrotter players live, a first for the team.
“We want to strengthen our relationship with kids, and kids really respond to our Globetrotter basketball and the tricks our stars can do,” said Angela Leaney, EVP of brand marketing for the Globetrotters. “So it was a no-brainer to develop a game where kids got the chance to be a Globetrotter and take the craziest, most over-the-top shots EVER.”
Globetrotter players were actively involved in the creation of the game, as Dizzy Grant recorded the voiceover used throughout the game and Hammer Harrison provided technical gaming input to the designers, First Post Productions.
“The Harlem Globetrotters are known around the world for their fun personalities and their incredible skills on and off the court. We wanted to make a game that not only reflected this, but really put you in their shoes and challenged you,” said Jacob Robinson, CEO of First Post LLC. “When you make that nothing but net shot after shooting through a helicopter or after rebounding off a car and hear a Globetrotter player cheer you on, for a moment you feel like a star on their court.”
Sponsored by Howard Johnson Hotels, Greyhound Lines, Spalding, and Russell Athletic, the Original Harlem Globetrotters are celebrating their 86th consecutive year in 2012, continuing a world-famous tradition of ball handling wizardry, basketball artistry, and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that continues to thrill fans of all ages. Throughout their history, the Globetrotters have showcased their iconic talents in 120 countries and territories on six continents, often breaking down cultural and societal barriers while providing fans with their first-ever basketball experience. Proud inductees of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the Globetrotters have entertained hundreds of millions of fans—among them popes, kings, queens, and presidents—over more than eight thrilling decades.
