Groups call on Dominion for more renewable energy

RICHMOND, Va. -- Several environmental groups say Dominion Virginia Power needs to do more to increase the use of renewable energy like solar and wind power.

The organizations include the Sierra Club and the Chesapeake Climate Action Network. They began a week-long demonstration Monday outside the company's Richmond headquarters.

About two dozen people attended the protest asking Dominion to increase renewable energy and rely less on fossil fuels. Dominion Virginia is a unit of Dominion Resources Inc.

They say the energy provider is seeking incentives paid for by its 2.3 million customers in Virginia and allowed under state law but hasn't created more renewable power.

Dominion says it is committed to meeting the state's voluntary renewable energy goal of 15 percent of its generation being from renewable sources by 2025.
