Cavendish Kinetics Appoints Paul Tornatta as Vice President of Customer Engineering

Veteran RF technical leader heads up new unit to support customer design and manufacturing efforts

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cavendish Kinetics, a provider of Tunable RF solutions, announced today the addition of Paul Tornatta and the formation of a customer design support organization to assist customers in implementing its digital tunable MEMS capacitors into RF front end circuits enabling significant reductions RF circuit components while improving RF performance.

As Vice President of Product and Customer Engineering, Mr. Tornatta, has responsibilities for providing design assistance in advanced tunable RF designs for mobile platforms. Mr. Tornatta has more than 25 years of experience aerospace, wireless, telecommunications and automotive industries. Before joining Cavendish, he served as CTO of Skycross, a leading mobile antenna supplier. Prior to Skycross he served as vice president of the automotive business unit at Radiall Corp., a leading supplier of RF interconnect products. He also served in a variety of leadership positions at Larsen Antenna Technologies, Metricom, and Lockheed Martin. Mr. Tornatta earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from New Mexico State University. He has written articles on RF design and electromagnetics for a variety of RF trade publications and holds 25 patents for antennas and RF systems architectures.

Citing key industry trends, Mr. Tornatta said, “Implementing digital variable capacitors in aperture antenna tuning is quickly becoming an essential tool in the wireless designer’s toolbox. Our focus is to help our customers understand some of the subtleties of designing tuning circuits in order to have a dramatic impact on performance. As the total antenna volume in mobile phones continues to be drastically reduced, aperture antenna tuning has never been more important, especially for LTE and LTE-A. While the concept is not difficult to understand, it is a new approach that many RF engineers are not used to.”

Cavendish President and CEO, Dennis Yost, said, “Even though tuning components are in the market now, the performance of Cavendish devices in tunable antennas presents new possibilities. Our Industry-leading quality factor, low parasitics and fine resolution open up new design possibilities for RF engineers. Paul’s extensive background, and deep domain knowledge in solving difficult RF problems give him a unique perspective in using state of the art technology to meet today’s challenging RF demands. We are excited that Paul has joined our team and will help usher in the era of tunable RF.”
