New company brings lower cost alternative to customers in Colorado
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The O’Neil Group Company and its partners, Dominick DiVello and Susan Loo Pattee, announce the formation of Healthcare Medical Waste Services, LLC (HCMWS) to provide a lower cost alternative for Colorado’s medical waste generators in a market that is dominated by industry giants Stericycle (SRCL) and Medical Systems of Denver, Inc. (MSDI).
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) defines a medical waste generator as anyone whose act or process generates waste determined to be of significant risk of infectiousness, this means not only medical facilities, doctors’ offices, or clinics, but veterinarians, dentists, mortuaries, biomedical laboratories, body art establishments, acupuncturists, shot clinics, pet shops and health fairs, among others.
Dominick DiVello, who has over 20 years in the solid, liquid and hazardous waste business, states that, “Many of these types of businesses are not even aware that they generate regulated medical waste or that there is a service available to help them dispose of their waste in a safe manner. The businesses that do recognize that they need to be in compliance, are often not aware that lower cost alternatives to Stericycle and MSDI exist and are ready to help.”
When asked why she wanted to be a partner in the new venture, Susan Loo Pattee, whose grandparents founded Current, Inc., stated, “Protecting our health and safety is vitally important to me; and, being involved in a company that prices its service to actually help promote compliance just seemed like such a great win-win opportunity for both our customers and the community.”
Kevin O’Neil commented that, “Starting this venture using The O’Neil Group Company’s existing infrastructure provides an economy of scale that keeps startup costs low, bringing the ability to compete regionally, then nationally for large institutional customers.” He additionally commented that, “We see real growth potential in this market.”
