Caesars Interactive Entertainment, Launch App for WSOP Broadcasts

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- and Caesars Interactive Entertainment, Inc. (CIE), together with Insignia Sports & Entertainment, have forged an alliance to launch a fully interactive second-screen experience to accompany original episodes of World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event telecasts airing on ESPN each Tuesday night in primetime. Last night's episode on ESPN aired at 9:30 p.m. ET and featured back-to-back, hour-long shows.

Powered by innovative, patent-pending technologies, the app offers a truly immersive experience, enabling viewers to play along with industry-leading poker features in a fun and captivating way.

Now anyone with an iPhone or iPad (Android devices to follow in a few weeks) can download the WSOP-ACTV8 app and participate in the World Series of Poker television program like never before.

Using proprietary technology, the WSOP-ACTV8 app, once downloaded, will recognize you are watching an original WSOP-ESPN telecast and will engage the user with interactive and social content.

"Users get to play along with the amateur community, as well as with professionals on the show," said CEO Brian Shuster. "Our WSOP application fosters a deeper relationship with the show, the content and the brand in a truly engaging way."

The companion app will include predictive elements like:

  • Will the Flop be more red or black?
  • What will the next card be?
  • Is he/she bluffing?
  • Who will win this hand?

In addition, polls, trivia questions and other unique interactive elements will all be part of the second-screen experience to engage viewers more and allow them for the very first time to earn and wager virtual currency, just like their favorite poker players on TV.

"This app is tailor made for the poker enthusiast," said World Series of Poker Executive Director Ty Stewart. "It is a masterpiece of interactive ingenuity that we believe will bring a whole new dimension to viewers watching the WSOP on ESPN."

Through the WSOP-ACTV8 app, users will be able to invite and challenge friends, all the while competing for points and badges and through the series of engaging activities offered while socializing in real time and assessing whose predictive skills are the best. This unprecedented level of engagement extends beyond the ability to interact with the show during live broadcasts by offering sync functionality even when watching it as a recorded show at the fans' leisure.

Peter Murray, President & CEO of Insignia Sports and Entertainment, said, "This flexibility empowers fans to lead their own social media experience, and fosters a fun, interactive and gamified environment."

The WSOP-ACTV8 app debuted with the Tuesday, September 18, WSOP-ESPN episode and continues throughout ESPN's Tuesday night coverage of original episodes.

The remainder of the telecast schedule is as follows:
