Austin Dyne Adds To His Sunoco Rookie Championship Lead With An Impressive 5th Place Finish In The NAPA Auto Parts 150 At Albuquerque’s NAPA Speedway

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- NASCAR K&N Pro Series West driver Austin Dyne increased his Sunoco Rookie Championship lead over his rivals with a well earned 5th place finish Saturday Night at Albuquerque’s NAPA Speedway, NAPA Auto Parts 150.

“My goal for this year was to win the Sunoco Rookie Championship,” said Dyne. “We’ve worked hard to get to this point, and now we have to work and prepare even more to make it a reality.” Dyne is also currently 8th in the K&N West Pro Series Championship.

Dyne and his team spent the first practice session on Friday setting the car up to be good during the cooler temperatures of the second session to be run that evening. “We also kept the 'night' set-up during the daytime practice on Saturday when it was 20 degrees hotter, and I spent the session working on different things for the race that night,” said Austin. Austin qualified 13th, with the “night” set-up.

For the race, Dyne and the crew developed a plan to run the first 100 laps at a consistent steady pace in order to save the tires for the end of race. “Austin did a masterful job of saving tires and still being able to pass cars, and by lap 125, he was up to fifth,” said Sunrise Ford team owner Bob Bruncati.

Austin managed to drive his William Rast Ford to as high as 4th place, but after a late race caution that forced him to start on the dirty outside groove for the green-white-checkered, he decided to make sure he kept the points he worked so hard to collect, and be smart on the re-start. “You don’t win Championships by doing something stupid on the last lap if you don’t have to. I’ve learned so much at every race this year, the K&N series is the best at providing that opportunity,” said Dyne.

The NAPA Auto Parts 150 will air on SPEED on Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. ET.

The next event on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West schedule is the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif., on Oct. 13.
