Czech labour minister resigns after police charge deputy

PRAGUE, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Czech Labour and Social Affairs Minister Jaromir Drabek resigned on Wednesday after police charged his first deputy with bribery.

The affair is a blow to the centre-right cabinet of Prime Minister Petr Necas, already weakened by a string of corruption scandals, defections in parliament and a rebellion by backbenchers who refuse to back the government's main tax and pension policy changes.

Drabek said his resignation would take effect at the end of October.
