‘Value-added Leadership’ Helps Talent Management Firm Capture Spot #239 on Inc. Magazine’s 500|5000 Fastest Growing Companies In America 2012

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- An innovative management approach termed “Value-added leadership” has helped to place Careers In Transition, Inc., a talent management consulting firm, on Inc. magazine’s “500|5000 Fastest Growing Companies in America 2012” list.

Careers In Transition achieved 1,500 percent growth over the past three years -- $5.2 million in revenue, 17 new employees and a respectable spot on Inc. magazine’s Top 500|5000 list with a ranking of 239. Careers In Transition is the #7 fastest growing private company in Georgia and #19 in government services, nationally.

Indigo Triplett, founder and CEO of Careers In Transition, will speak on this new leadership style at Inc. magazine’s “500|5000 Awards Conference” on October 5, in Phoenix, AZ. She also will be interviewed by the Kaufman Foundation during the conference.

“The United States President and leading economists agree that small businesses are the economic engine of the country; however, small businesses continue to go out-of-business at an alarming rate,” says Ms. Triplett. “It is a well-documented fact that small businesses fail due to a lack of leadership.”

During what is considered one of the most economically challenging times in US history, the company has moved from a manager-owner business to a growth firm by utilizing a two-pronged methodology. This includes leadership transformation and a diversified suite of talent management solutions. The adoption of these new leadership methodologies has placed the company on the fast track.

The first game changing move was through Ms. Triplett’s shift in leading her company. “A key ingredient for the small business owner to stay in business and to grow the business is to allow employees to utilize their strengths,” she suggests. Triplett, who is completing a Ph.D. program in leadership, is guided by her new-found motto: ‘Grass Doesn’t Grow Faster by Pulling on it.’

She adds: “Instead of firing employees, I now focus on nurturing and creating a culture where positive attributes are leveraged and weaknesses minimized.”

The second contributor to the company’s growth is talent management solutions. It cites a current example: its implementation and management of a national educational support services project for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the TSA Associates Program. This program operates in all 50 states and U.S. territories, including Guam and Saipan. The Program is targeted at more than 50,000 Transportation Security Officers (TSO) who serve nearly 90 major airport hubs and screen approximately 250 million travelers each year. To date 3,000 TSOs participate. Of those officers, more than 1,000 have completed the program and earned a certificate in Homeland Security. Some 500 TSO officers have continued their education, earning an associate’s degree.

The company’s achievement has received significant media coverage, including news stories in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Atlanta Business Chronicle, Black Enterprise magazine, The Huffington Post and FOX affiliate networks.
