Autoweek Editors Announce the Best of the 2012 Paris Motor Show

Vehicles from Jaguar, Volkswagen, McLaren and Peugeot win Editors’ Choice Awards

DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Autoweek editorial staff presents Jaguar with the 2012 Autoweek Editors’ Choice Award for Best in Show at the Paris motor show. The long-awaited Jaguar F-Type unanimously won the vote, featuring a sleek body style and powerful performance potential.

Supercars took center stage as Autoweek editors walked the floors of the 2012 Paris motor show, one of the largest car exhibitions in the world. Despite the economic downturn in Europe, Paris featured extravagant reveals and an impressive presence by global car makers.

The Autoweek Editors’ Choice Award winners for the best of the Paris motor show are:

BEST IN SHOW: Jaguar F-Type

“Sleek, sexy and powerful, the F-Type becomes a new halo for Jaguar,” Digital Editor Andrew Stoy said. “Put the top down, fire up the engine -- especially the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 -- and all suddenly becomes right with the world. It's a car to covet for anyone with a love of sports cars.”

MOST SIGNIFICANT: Volkswagen Golf

“It’s impossible to overstate how much the Golf matters around the world,” Germany Editor Greg Kable said. “It means sales and profits for Volkswagen. The Golf’s fuel efficiency is critical, but it’s also a practical option for a wide variety of buyers.”

MOST FUN: McLaren P1

“The McLaren P1 is easily the most fun car in Paris,” News Editor Greg Migliore said. “It has all of the elements of a true, emotional supercar. McLaren channeled its Grand Prix heritage into an ultra-modern machine that exudes confidence and attitude.”

BEST CONCEPT: Peugeot Onyx

“Peugeot has teased us for years with outrageously styled, out-of-this-world concepts, but this time the French automaker brought it all together in the down-to-earth Onyx,” said Executive Editor Bob Gritzinger. “Peugeot’s supercar concept has something for everyone: race fans, design aficionados, car enthusiasts and environmentalists.”

The Oct. 15 issue of Autoweek magazine will feature a full report from the show in Paris. For more information on the Editors’ Choice Awards, past winners and for extensive Paris motor show coverage, visit autoweek.com/autoshows.
