Popular Medica Solo Now Available with Family Coverage

MINNETONKA, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Medica today announced that its trend-setting Individual and Family business (IFB) product, Medica Solo, is available for families in the Minnesota market starting with a November 1, 2012 effective date.

Medica Solo has been, like its name implies, a solo-only plan. Due to market requests, Medica is adding family deductible plan options to Medica Solo so that families can be covered under a single policy and enjoy the same features and affordability that has made Medica Solo a popular product. A family’s premium is based on plan selection and the number of family members covered (spouse and up to three dependents – there’s no additional charge for dependents beginning with the fourth dependent).

The Medica Solo family plan choices include a variety of deductible and copay options:

  • $6,300 deductible, with a $30 copay
  • $12,600 deductible, with a $40 copay
  • $18,900 deductible, with a $50 copay
  • $25,200 deductible, with a $60 copay
  • All options are available with 100 percent or 80 percent coverage for in-network services.

Since its introduction in 2007, Medica Solo has had a strong influence on Minnesota’s individual market, with its pioneering design of offering immediate coverage for the most common services, such as office visits and generic drugs, at an affordable premium. With Medica Solo, for the first time, consumers could purchase “tangible” benefits that could be used right away, instead of having to first satisfy a deductible.

No changes have been made to product features. Some of Medica Solo’s most popular features include:

  • Competitive pricing. Prices for Medica Solo for families are available online at: https://portal.medica.com/Visitor/ifbproducttool.
  • No deductibles or copays for some services. The first three office visits, first three convenience care visits, first urgent care and first emergency room visit per year are covered with a copay, as are prescription drugs. Preventive services are covered at 100 percent with no cost sharing. These popular benefits will apply per person with the Medica Solo family plans.
  • Cost control features like: No coverage for maternity services except required prenatal care; an option to purchase richer pharmacy coverage and an option to decline coverage for mental health/substance abuse services.

Medica Solo members have access to Medica Choice, the health plan’s broadest network.
