MELVILLE, N.Y., Oct. 3, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The attorneys with the Securities Law Firm of Shepherd Smith Edwards & Kantas LLP, www.sseklaw.com, are investigating claims involving Paul Leon White. Paul White was a broker with Alternative Wealth Strategies, Inc., Heritage Financial Systems, Inc., and Halcyon Capital Markets, LLC before he was permanently barred from working in the industry in 2010. According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) in the disbarment action, Paul White repeatedly sold unsuitable securities to investors. Many of his violations involved the sale of Tenant in Common (TIC) interests as well as non-traded real estate investment trusts (REITs), although other securities were involved. According to FINRA, there was evidence of at least one instance where Paul White improperly refused to exercise a sale order for a customer, claiming that the customer was required to provide a signed statement from a professional stating that the customer had sufficient mental capacity to enter the order.
In total, FINRA determined that Paul White sold $3.7 million in interests in TICs to customers of his firm, while he collected over $1.6 million in commissions. Many investors have suffered significant losses as a result of the sale of inappropriate securities and other violations.
