KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- EnerNex commends the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) and all of its participants on receiving the “Taming Smart Grid Complexity” award at the annual GridWeek conference in Washington, D.C. this week.
The 783 member organization represents 22 stakeholder categories and over 1,800 individuals. The SGIP has demonstrated that through collaboration and hard work, complexity can be conquered to achieve results and significant industry progress.
Erich Gunther, the chairman and chief technology officer, stated: “It’s been a long journey since the first National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) workshops facilitated by Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in the summer of 2009 and it has been an honor to work initially with EPRI and NIST on this collaborative initiative. It is truly a game changer for our industry; EnerNex is proud to be a part of it.”
The GridWeek Advisory Board, comprised of 12 major Smart Grid and energy stakeholder organizations, recognized the SGIP and all of its participants for significant achievements in the pursuit of an interoperable grid.
In November of 2009, the SGIP was established by the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and administered by EnerNex. The GridWeek award acknowledges the SGIP’s tireless efforts to engage stakeholders from the entire Smart Grid Community in a collaborative public process to identify applicable standards, gaps in currently available standards, and priorities for new standardization activities.
