Federated Rapidly Deploys New Mobile Devices with Wavelink's Avalanche Remote Control

SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Wavelink, a division of LANDesk Software, today announced that the company has been working with Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL), the largest co-operative wholesaler in Canada, to assist with a refresh of its mobile device lineup with a new arsenal of mobile computers managed by Wavelink Avalanche and Avalanche Remote Control.

Avalanche Remote Control, a mobile help desk solution that allows customers to support devices in the field remotely, enabled FCL to deploy 245 Psion Omnii mobile computers in four warehouse locations in just three weeks. This was five weeks less than estimated for the project's completion. Previous estimates were based on FCL's prior experiences, which often resulted in lengthy projects due to travel time and troubleshooting.

FCL, a co-operative wholesaler with sales of $8.2 billion in 2011, provides centralized wholesaling, manufacturing and administrative services to 235 co-op stores across Western Canada. An existing customer of Wavelink's Terminal Emulation and Avalanche, the company's mobile device management product, FCL was looking for an integrated way to manage devices remotely and to quickly deploy new devices.

"We already knew about the day-to-day benefits of Wavelink's Terminal Emulation and Wavelink Avalanche," said Kent Kostuk, industrial engineering manager for FCL. "But we were still amazed at how quickly it enabled us to roll-out new devices to our warehouses."

FCL had not completed an equipment refresh in a decade and the company's industrial engineering team knew that expectations would be high. The FCL team's goal was to make the roll-out as quick, painless, and inexpensive as possible.

"Avalanche Remote Control accelerated our implementation and reduced our costs. We were able to resolve issues in less time without having to leave the home office," said Kostuk.

Wavelink solutions, such as Wavelink Terminal Emulation and Avalanche, are tightly integrated with the Wavelink portfolio of solutions, in turn providing end-to-end solutions for the entire enterprise. When customers add devices and other peripherals to their enterprise networks, they can be sure that Wavelink solutions will grow with them."

"When customers' needs grow and change, Wavelink products like Avalanche and Terminal Emulation allow them to gain tremendous flexibility by adding newer mission critical devices as needed," said Stephen Bemis, vice president of worldwide sales for Wavelink. It is truly a future-proof solution set and we look forward to continue evolving our products alongside our customers."
