LOS ANGELES -- Clothing maker American Apparel Inc. said Thursday a key sales figure rose 15 percent in September, helped by online sales and fewer discounts.
The Los Angeles-based company said the increase in revenue from stores open at least a year included a 14 percent boost from its retail stores and a 19 percent increase from its online store for the month ended Sept. 30.
The figure is a key metric because it strips out the impact of newly opened and closed locations.
Total revenue for the month rose 10 percent to $51.1 million.
Sale of more full-price items boosted results, CEO Dov Charney said.
Its shares finished at $1.33 on Wednesday. They have traded in a 52-week range of 52 cents to $1.70.
