37-Story Tower Designed by Internationally Acclaimed Architect Richard Meier Illustrates Upswing of Israeli Real Estate Market
TEL AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Berggruen Residential Ltd., a joint venture between Berggruen Development, the U.S.-based private investment firm and Hagag-Cohen Group, has underscored the strong demand for high-rise living in Tel Aviv with the Meier-on-Rothschild, a 37-story ultra-luxury residential tower designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier. Located at 36 Rothschild Boulevard, the tower is halfway completed and 60 percent pre-sold.

Nicolas Berggruen and Yigal Zemah of Berggruen Holdings initiated the idea for the Meier-on-Rothschild, a building of world-class caliber that would stretch the envelope regarding the current local construction and design standards in Israel, in 2005. Already reigning as Tel Aviv’s most prestigious address, the project is slated for completion in the first quarter of 2014.
Rising 590 feet, the modernist white and transparent tower will put Richard Meier’s signature on the Tel Aviv skyline. Known as “The White City,” Tel Aviv has an architectural precedent of the 1930s Bauhaus-style, characterized by functionality and minimalism. Meier-on-Rothschild is a fresh interpretation of this idea, demonstrating Meier’s reputation for buildings that exploit natural light and integrate seamlessly into their surroundings. Boasting spectacular views, the building overlooks Neve Zedek and Jaffa to the south, Rothschild Boulevard and the Bauhaus district to the north, the Judean mountains to the east, and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, and is proximate to the city’s best dining, shopping, and beaches.
“To be able to give something beautiful and unique to this extraordinary city, Tel Aviv, is the fulfillment of a lifetime dream,” commented Meier.
The spacious apartments will be luxuriously appointed with the finest materials and leading-edge innovations to ensure Meier-on-Rothschild becomes “the” address in Tel Aviv, joining the limited pantheon of the world’s great residential buildings. Boasting 10-foot ceilings and unparalleled views, each 8,450-square-foot floor can be a single residence or divided into two, four or five units, and will feature 540 square feet of outdoor terraces and a “Smart Home” system for controlling electric, communication and security functions. Meier-on-Rothschild contains 147 total units, including one triplex penthouse and two duplex penthouses, one of which, known as “The Palace in the Sky,” is priced at $50 million – the most expensive apartment ever for sale in Israel. Prices range from $1,100 to $1,700 per square foot; penthouses are priced at $3,000 per square foot.
The building will feature a luxurious spa, comprised of a state-of-the-art fitness center, relaxation lounge, treatment room, dry sauna and personal training room. A chic roof deck will feature a 25-meter swimming pool; adjacent kid’s pool, Jacuzzi, lounge chairs and cabanas, and a wine cellar will double as an entertaining area and wine collection storage. A 24-hour concierge will be on duty to assist residents with their every need.
