TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Advance registration is now underway for the “WALK FOR THE CHILDREN”, benefitting HERBIE FUND. Now in its second year, this unique fundraising walk through the grounds of the TORONTO ZOO is set for SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14 (9:30 am - 3:00 pm). Fundraisers will be automatically entered into a draw to win a family vacation package to Orlando, Florida.

“Walk for the Children is a novel concept that generated a tremendous response last year,” says Gina Godfrey, Herbie Fund’s President and Co-Founder. “You don’t have to pound the pavement of city streets or race to the finish. Families can enjoy the day together, walking at their own pace through one of Canada’s top tourist destinations.”

The inaugural event, held at the Toronto Zoo last October, raised more than $100,000 for Herbie Fund at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

“The funds from Walk for the Children benefit an international medical program with a lasting impact,” says Event Co-Chair Tina Lavigne. “We want to create an incentive for our participants in their fundraising efforts. Keeping with our family-friendly theme, we’ll be sending one lucky family on a dream vacation.” For every $100 raised, fundraisers will receive a ballot for a draw for a family vacation package to Orlando, Florida. Full contest details and regulations are available online at www.WalkForTheChildren.ca.

Event Co-Chair Bart Lind says, “We’ve got an exciting new route that takes families through some of the zoo’s top attractions and enhanced passports that add to a child’s sense of adventure.” This year’s route takes participants through the Discovery Zone, Australasia Pavilion, Core Woods, African Rainforest Pavilion and the White Lion Exhibit. Passport stamping stations are included along the way. “We’re also building on all the elements that made last year such a great success – the games, the live entertainment and the picnic lunch,” said Lind.

The proceeds from Walk for the Children help Herbie Fund in its mandate of enabling specialized surgical care for the world’s children. Since its inception in 1979, Herbie Fund has assisted 692 children from 103 countries in receiving life-altering or life-saving surgery or treatment at SickKids.
